i was studying my heart and lungs out for exams. now with exams approaching and my MA still half completed ( with stuff like joint and support costing still elusive ) im getting very very tired.

i came across afew postings by seniors.

i can understand the senior's concerns and all that "vomit" about how we top students are taking away the "life" from SMU. all that sundays in school, that non-existent "break week" and the popular "summer term" and "double degrees".

but have they stopped to ponder, that the reason smu is becoming competitive and they cant take the heat is because of meritrocracy.

the reason why we have been among the elite of the singapore education system is not because we can mug, but because we know what is expected of us, what we need to do to stay on top in this system. its nothing different from work, where we know what our boss wants and produce it to get promoted. honestly, i know of friends who are seriously slow, and i do not think im very smart either, since i take awhile to grasp concepts. but im seen as smart because society defines me as that. simply because the truly intelligent people know how to make the system work for them.

that's a fact, and if the year 3s cant understand why GPA is important, they should just open their eyes. if they didnt realise why we have to go back to school on a sunday, they should just see the amount/level of projs we have to do as yr 1s ( i mean, seriously, my proj meetings are pretty productive and i still have to meet so many times ). and they should know that, above all, its the survival of the fittest.

so ur GPA is hopeless. so ure lamenting how the yr 1s are to blame. but trust me, we're competitive because we have to be the moment we are born, to a big and auspicious year. and reading up before term starts? that's a norm habit that was practiced from the moment i started learning how to speak and write.

and by the way, we are different. my nus biz friends sound free-er than me. we study and we do projs and we do CCAs. yea maybe we are inhumane, in ur opinions, but that's the way we survive, by being all rounders in the right areas. stress on the word "right".

and yes i do have a life, i just do not see drinking and clubbing as a healthy social life to engage in. neither do i see how some CCAs ( quote: the one i joined and disappeared ) are actually contributing to being "vibrant" since its the school's dictation of what is and what isnt vibrant anyway.

we're just a different breed of students who are paying a hell lot more for our education and are making sure that the 8+k that we invest is worth our while. and we are here to bring the "stuff" into smu. honestly, if you dont study, and practice ur concepts, u think u can become a good accountant next time? all fluff and no stuff wont last you very long.

too bad then, the seniors will have to live with it. i mean, harvard and the other top us business schools, i bet people there study like siao too. because, without stuff inside, there's nowhere for the fluff to build on.

go figure.

of course, i do agree that class size shouldnt go bigger. i love taking MA now because of the small class size ( of only 17 ppl! whee, tutorial sessions every week ). but, on the downside, keeping classes at 30-40 means that sch fees will go up much more due to larger overhead allocation per student. i suppose, un-availability of GSRs is something we'll have to grapple with soon.

that's why, i love staying at home, especially during study breaks. nobody to complain that "there, those freaks are studying in school again. these are the ones taking the vibrancy away from smu"

its all about image. didnt smu teach you that?

--and before you start with a series of posts to counter me, shoudnt you be studying for finals which start on monday?--

oh yeah man, i love being sacarstic.
